Alameda island…it takes a village.

Stopped my bike to take this photo on a nearby power pole! It takes a village!

I can’t believe how many times I’ve said this is the last month…”It takes a village!” There is a distinct advantage to living on an island. It creates a tight-feeling community.  Community members tend to support each other, whether in need or when happiness abounds.

I appointed myself to being the local Neighborhood Watch captain (that’s what we are called) when our son and his best friend (both 4th graders? at that time) were accosted at gunpoint just up the street as they were walking home from school.

As I was riding my bike home a couple of weeks ago, a friend told me about this sign, on our street. So I went over and took a photo of it. I do love this town.

I arrived in Alameda in 1973, as a new bride...with husband Carl Schumacher, both of us from Newport Beach. He was embarking on his career as a Naval Architect (i.e. yacht designer) under Gary Mull. Please see the 'ABOUT ME' page in this website! to see how it has all turned out! I'm so blessed!
