Alameda…grateful for my bike and the ability to ride all around the town!

Sometimes I have to stop my bike and look around me..and be grateful to live in Alameda.  This is  the Bay Farm Island Bike Bridge (it’s a drawbridge next to the drawbridge for motored vehicles), if any body needs to know! one small mind thinking about one big world. Kind of.

Today has been 1 year since I joined the Fusion Real Estate Network.  I forgot about it, but then it hit home because I received so many congrats on LinkedIn!  As I wrote back to one of the folks,  “It’s been one year plus 27 more before that, full time, all the time, regardless of upturns or downturns.”

*Interest rates were just dropping through 18% when I came into the business in 1986.
*The San Francisco earthquake in ’89 shut down escrows while lenders decided if houses were still standing and worthy of loans PLUS the County Recorder’s office was so badly damaged the workers weren’t allowed to get in.
*Short-sales (who knew what those were?) in the 1990’s showed up because the military decided it didn’t need to be the sole support of the economy and shut most of the CA bases down.  No income, no jobs.
*The disastrous Oakland hills fire…1991.  You think rental housing is bad now?  You should have seen everything rented in town almost overnight and prices just went through the roof.
*2002 was the bust of the economy.
*2007 and the Great Recession…and for some it is still very real, and for others, barely a dream.

Welcome to my world….and that’s why those of us who do it this long, love it.  We get to help people (often they become friends, short term or long term), during all kinds of victories and troubles, either big or small. And even in the most normal, mundane situations….there is something about the sigh of relief when a transaction closes and folks just feel… relieved.  It’s time to move on.

I have the privilege of working with some of the best agents/brokers ever. But don’t get me started on the worst agents….that would be a book.  As my son says, I get to work in A-town.

I arrived in Alameda in 1973, as a new bride...with husband Carl Schumacher, both of us from Newport Beach. He was embarking on his career as a Naval Architect (i.e. yacht designer) under Gary Mull. Please see the 'ABOUT ME' page in this website! to see how it has all turned out! I'm so blessed!
