THE SECOND STORY | May 1st, 2014

Alameda..”We love where we live, and people want to live here!”

I took this shot early in spring when the windsurfers and kiteboarders were going great guns, speeding over the small waves…at the corner where Shoreline turns into Westline. I refer to that location as the windsurf shack, because there is a school that teaches the sport there. My life, my own small view of things.

Why home prices aren’t lifting the economy… from the WSJ

I got a call in the last week from my buyers.  They are so frustrated with the offer process. But I’m a firm believer, as is my client…that the right things do happen the right way at the right time.  Over the last couple of years they have seriously saved up so much money, they can now get into more of a house and with better terms, than they thought!

But when buyers are too aggressive…there can be costly mistakes made in the grab to get a house.  Recently my same clients made a wonderful offer on a great house.  But another buyer paid more money.  This week the listing agent for that house, told me that buyers who got the house, did a further inspection for termite work during escrow..and the inspector said it would be about $3000.  Once they actually owned it, they hired the same inspector to do the work, and it turned into $10,000 worth of dry rot damage!  That would have been a very difficult situation for my clients.

So if you are frustrated by hearing about all cash deals, and frustrated for being #16 of 23 offers (as my clients were on another house)…we just need to step back, catch our breaths, and move on!  The greatest growth and learning come when we seem to be the most frustrated and fatigued!

Be ready to act…because the rates will be heading up…and that can really cost you a lot of money for a lot of years.  Back to what my client said….Alameda…”We love where we live, and people want to live here!”  Thanks, Maggie for your thoughtful phone call, that triggered this!

I arrived in Alameda in 1973, as a new bride...with husband Carl Schumacher, both of us from Newport Beach. He was embarking on his career as a Naval Architect (i.e. yacht designer) under Gary Mull. Please see the 'ABOUT ME' page in this website! to see how it has all turned out! I'm so blessed!
