High and dry!

Blog photo:  or…low tide!!  This is the cat(amaran) near the Crown Harbor houses, on the bike path.  The house faces on Central and this the boat behind it.  Taken the same time as last weeks photo…the image I called Peace…Full.  What a day for the camera about 4:30pm.

Blog post:  My client Kevin, was so kind to email me a link to the county assessor office today.  I’ll put it in this email but also tack it on the side bar to the right as a future reference for you.  I think the Alameda Co. Assessor’s department has a great website!  Whether you like or don’t like what they do, they have an excellent site and are on their game.

One of the things that Kevin noticed was this year you need to itemize your property taxes.  Many who live where Mello Roos districts are imposed deduct the Mello Roos tax.  I’ve been telling folks for years that may not be possible, but many have decided to do it any way.  Well, that game is over now.

Take a look at the list and the exceptions, and see how your taxes might change, in terms of what you can deduct!  It appears that the Measure A school assessment of .32 cents per square foot based on the county record, is not going to be deductible.  Aw, shucks!  Well, lets hope the schools do what’s right for the kids.

By the way….at the open houses I’ve had, people are MOVING to Alameda from nearby areas simply because we have put in the money for our schools.  AND they are moving down from the hills!  I met two separate families, from Montclair, one with kids and a ‘young’ couple with kids out of the nest, who are coming down here in the flats. They are tired of driving everywhere, want to walk to town or along the beach, and know their neighbors.  Both said that they felt ‘alone’ up there, and rarely saw the folks next door.

I’m telling you…we are all about the town here.  And everybody has their say!

I arrived in Alameda in 1973, as a new bride...with husband Carl Schumacher, both of us from Newport Beach. He was embarking on his career as a Naval Architect (i.e. yacht designer) under Gary Mull. Please see the 'ABOUT ME' page in this website! www.MarilynSchumacher.com to see how it has all turned out! I'm so blessed!
