Trying to get all signs to point to The Point!

Blog photo:  Summer garden colors brighten the dreary days this week!

Blog post:  I attended the Wednesday evening rally and the reciprocal presentations of the City of Alameda (pumping Alameda Point to the Lawrence Berkeley Lab powers-that-be), and LBL powers (explaining the intents, desires, and work of the lab).

Folks who partook of the outdoor barbeque dinner seemed to like it and then 450+  locals filled the lovely Antiques By The Bay Theatre for the meeting.  From the Mayor, to the city staff in charge of the Point project, to local community group leaders to private citizens….all welcomed the LBL officials and pitched Alameda from as many angles as possible.  No stone remained unturned.  It was like a pep rally!  For the first time groups that have traditionally been on opposite sides of many issues, all came together to support this project.  It was quite amazing.

Alameda was the first stop of the show LBL is giving to each of the short list hopefuls (Albany, Richmond, Oakland, Emeryville are the others).  And the those cities, in turn, pitch their location to LBL.

So it will be interesting to see what happens as we move toward November of this year when LBL says it expects to announce the selected city.  After that the due diligence and EIR efforts start in.  The anticipated build-out is to be completed in 2016.

ALAMEDA REAL ESTATE THIS WEEK…
I put a new listing on the market this week.  906 Central is a fixer duplex.  This may be a good property for extended family, someone who wants/needs a single level lower unit, an all cash buyer who has what skill/funds it takes to bring this back to it’s glory, or an FHA buyer who wants to finance the purchase and improvements through a FHA 203K renovation loan.  Once the purchase closes, then the rehab kicks in.  Call if you have questions!

Open houses this weekend (Alameda Patch didn’t have anything posted! So grab a Friday Alameda Journal and check out the open house page in the real estate section).

I arrived in Alameda in 1973, as a new bride...with husband Carl Schumacher, both of us from Newport Beach. He was embarking on his career as a Naval Architect (i.e. yacht designer) under Gary Mull. Please see the 'ABOUT ME' page in this website! www.MarilynSchumacher.com to see how it has all turned out! I'm so blessed!
